  • WSAS 2010 LAWN BOWLS PROGRAM

The 16 athletes in the lawn bowls squad have been training hard with head coach Steve McGuiness and assistant coach Neil Burkett. The squad has participated in a drugs in sport seminar, video analysis with Bowls NSW and a nutrition and healthy eating seminar. Coming up in the program the squad will be learning about sport psychology and travelling to the NSW South Coast for an Inter Academy Challenge.

The Lawn Bowls Program is the very latest opportunity provided by the Academy for Western Sydney’s young lawn bowlers to progress to higher levels of the sport. The new Program commenced in March 2010 through the support of Bowls NSW and Program Partners, Merrylands Bowling Club and Mount Lewis Bowling Club.

16 young male and female bowlers receive technical and educational components delivered at these two strong Club venues, under the guidance of Club Merrylands Bowls Coordinator Steve McGuiness. High level technical resources and advice are coordinated with a range of providers, with the programs also featuring guest coaches, inter-Academy competition and various event opportunities.

The 2010 Program will conclude in October to be followed by the 2011 Program selections in February 2011.
